Mess
Hall Fire -
At
noon a fire alarm was received from the Airman’s Mess Hall where the majority
of the fire crew on duty were having lunch. The fire chief F/S MacAllister and
myself were the only ones left in the fire hall. The station fire siren sounded
causing all the Firefighters that were in the Airman’s Mess to immediately
leave the Mess and double to the fire hall, not knowing that the fire was in the
Mess Hall kitchen. Needless to say the chief and myself could do little until
the fire crew returned to the fire scene from the fire hall. Considerable fire
damage resulted due to this delay. When the chief tried to explain what happened
to the Commanding Officer, he was sharply critized for letting six out of
a crew of eight go to the Mess Hall at once.
