The Great Gin Caper Prince Rupert 1946

Easy Money - In Jan 1946, I was posted from Pat Bay (Victoria) to Sandspit in the Queen Charlotte Islands. I was to proceed to Seal Cove RCAF Stn. in Prince Rupert and await instructions on how to get to Sandspit. It turned out I was to fly by pontoon equipped Norseman to the spit. The weather was terrible, rain and gale winds daily.  After six no fly days, I decided to go into Prince Rupert to see a movie.  I was standing in line to purchase a ticket when an individual approached me and asked me if I had used my BC liquor Commission quota for that month. (ration 1-26 oz per month) I replied: “No” I had not. He then gave me a $20.00 bill and said he would take my place in line if I would go three blocks to the liquor outlet and get him a 26-oz of Gin. I said, “OK” and off I went. When I returned to the lineup, he was no where in sight.  In fact I have not seen him to this day!  Not bad for a days work in those days $16.00 and a bottle of Gin, ALL FOR FREE!!!
