In The Family - The winter of 1957/58 at Goose Bay had an abundance of snow that required many hours hard work
to keep the Fire Hydrants clear on the Base and PMQ area. On 1 April, a fire alarm from the PMQ area was received at the Fire Hall. I, a young Sergeant
Crew Chief responded with the pumper and crew. The Deputy Fire Chief, F/Sgt Russell responded with the Fire Hall 4X4. The Fire Chief, WO2 McIvor who was at the Station Headquarters building was driven
to the alarm location by the Commanding Officer in his Staff car. Upon arrival at the fire alarm box location. Two small children ages 4
and 5 were sitting by the alarm box on a high snow bank. The children were digging in the snow, uncovered the Fire Alarm Box they pulled the handle (operating the alarm)
The CO and Fire Chief arrived at the scene, The chief getting out of the staff car shouted "F/Sgt Russell Who pulled that alarm.
F/Sgt Russell replied "Your Daughter and Teeds Son Sir". Needless to say from that day on all fire alarm boxes were cleared of snow.
