Farmers
Fire - One evening in the spring of 1949 we received a request from a local
farmer that a grass fire was heading for his barn and house. We responded with
myself as the Sergeant Fire Chief and a volunteer crew made up of Airmen who
lived in barracks and Temporary Married Quarters. We were able to extinguish the
grass fire about one hundred feet from the barn and house. The farmer was so
grateful he insisted that he sponsor a big party in the Combined Mess. The
Truro, Nova Scotia paper headed with LOCAL RCAF FIRE CREW SAVED FARMER SMITHS
FAMILY AS WELL AS HIS BARN AND HOUSE”
