RCAF 16 “X” Depot Debert, Nova Scotia

Farmers Fire - One evening in the spring of 1949 we received a request from a local farmer that a grass fire was heading for his barn and house. We responded with myself as the Sergeant Fire Chief and a volunteer crew made up of Airmen who lived in barracks and Temporary Married Quarters. We were able to extinguish the grass fire about one hundred feet from the barn and house. The farmer was so grateful he insisted that he sponsor a big party in the Combined Mess. The Truro, Nova Scotia paper headed with LOCAL RCAF FIRE CREW SAVED FARMER SMITHS FAMILY AS WELL AS HIS BARN AND HOUSE”
