FR Gerald Archibald "Buck" Buckler

BUCKLER, Gerald Archibald "Buck" - 85, Bear River, passed away November 8, 2006, in Digby
General Hospital. Born March 11, 1921, in Greenland, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Roscoe and Olive (Bishop) Buckler. He served in France, Germany and Holland
during the Second World War. He toured with sportsman (woodsman) shows in the United States before returning to Bear River. He was employed by CFB Cornwallis Fire
Department and later at B.A. Alcorn Ltd. Lumbering Mill, where he became the owner and manager. Gerald enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing and golfing.
He was active in the community, being involved in the local fire department, and treasurer of Bear River United Baptist Church. The Bear River Cherry Festival,
exhibitions, woodsman's competitions and ox pulls were always special times for him. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Alcorn); daughter, Gail (Michael) Longmire,
Hillsburn; son, James, Bear River; grandchildren, Kate (Paul) Gailbraith, Mississauga, Ont.; Abby Longmire, Hillsburn; Alex Longmire, Halifax; sisters, Hazel Bell and
Dorothy Isles, both of Bear River; Roxy (Bill) Potter, Nictaux; brother, Donald (Lavaughn), Buckler; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Maxine
Buckler. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday in Bear River United Baptist Church, Rev. Donald
Scheels officiating. Private interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Tri-County Victorian Order of Nurses or a charity of one's choice. |
