1945 RCAF Station Uplands – Detachment Carp

A Corporal CO - Carp was the main relief landing field for Harvard Pilot training. In the spring of 1945 the requirement for new pilots was greatly reduced, resulting in the closing of the Detachment. The remaining staff consisted of myself (Cpl Fire Chief) and five civilians. The vehicles available were one crash truck and one dump truck. I reported to Station Uplands twice a month for my pay and to make a report to the Works and Building Officer. This continued for a year until the Detachment was closed and turned over to Crown Assets. I imagine I was the only Cpl Commanding Officer in the RCAF!
